Archetype - Terminology

ARCHETYPE — TERMINOLOGY
Core language of the game.

Archetype Card
A character’s primary lens for interacting with the game and your role within the action.

There are five Archetypes, and they are fixed:
🌀 Tempo — speed, timing, initiative, and opportunism
⚔️ Aggro — pressure, commitment, and direct confrontation
Support — enabling, sustaining, and empowering others
🌐 Control — restriction, zones, denial, and manipulation
☀️ Midrange — adaptability, endurance, and consistent presence
An Archetype affects starting features, limits, and how certain rules interact with you.

Talent Card
A small, additive rule that modifies how your character behaves.
Talents:
Are always in effect unless stated otherwise
Do not create new subsystems
May grant bonuses, triggers, rerolls, or exceptions
May have Affinity with an Archetype
Characters gain Talents frequently.

Specialization Card
A major character choice that changes how your character functions.
These will introduce new rules, resources, or subsystems
Significantly alter risk, power, or progression.
May have Affinity with an Archetype

Affinity
A marker showing that a Talent or Specialization works more efficiently for a specific Archetype.
Any character may use any Talent or Specialization.
If your Archetype matches its Affinity symbol, you gain an additional benefit

Trait Card
A permanent or semi-permanent physical or factual modifier tied to your body, origin, or condition.

Spell Card
A discrete magical effect.

Turn
When it is your turn, choose one:
Action Only — stay in place and act
Move Near + Action — move up to your speed, then act
Move Far — move twice your speed, no action

Action Types
Simple Action
Succeeds automatically. No roll required.
Check
Roll d20 + modifier ≥ Target Number.
On success, it works. On failure, it doesn’t.
Attack
Roll d20 + modifier ≥ Armor Class.
On a hit, deal damage.

Advantage / Disadvantage
Advantage: roll two d20s, take the higher
Disadvantage: roll two d20s, take the lower
They do not stack.

HP (Hit Points)
HP represents stamina, luck, morale, and defensive capacity, not just physical injury.

Death
When your HP is reduced to 0 or less, you risk death or permanent consequences.
The exact outcome depends on the rules governing death and dying.

Card
A physical or written reference containing the full text of an Archetype, a Talent, Specialization, Items and spells.
Cards are tools, not requirements. All rules exist in the rulebook.

The terms specified in this text will be used consistently everywhere else.
